Road gives way under truck

A GARBAGE truck doing its weekly rounds found itself in a sinking situation on Monday morning.

Residents of Bryan Street, Swan Hill, woke up to “strange” and “loud” noises when the truck pulled up to collect a garbage bin only to have its two back tyres sink into the road.

A witness said she looked out her window and saw the two back tyres of the truck sink into the gravel of the street, which gave way, apparently due to a burst water pipe.

The incident occurred outside the Murray River Motel.

Murray River Motel owner Peter Holt said the motel wasn’t affected by the incident, however water was turned off in the area.

“They got the truck out by about 7.30am,” Mr Holt said.

“The plumbers got here pretty quickly and turned off the water.”

Swan Hill Rural City Council was called to the incident and towed the truck out of the significant hole.

Council contacted Lower Murray Water requesting they investigate the matter.
