Central Murray’s Cup chance

CENTRAL Murray has qualified for the grand final of the V/Line Cup to be held at Preston City Oval in Melbourne today.

The local team travelled to Bendigo for its first game of the competition on Sunday, where it proved too strong for its opponents, winning 8.14 (62) to 3.2 (20).

Central Murray then continued on to Melbourne, where it met Gippsland Power 2 at Victoria Park and had a massive win, 13.17 (95) to 1.1 (7).

Other results point to them taking on Hampden in the decider at 1pm today.

Area footy manager Jamie Macri said the side had done “an amazing job” for the two preliminary rounds on Sunday and Monday, before having a rest day yesterday.

“Paddy Dow and Brent Daniels put on a clinic [in Bendigo], they were both outstanding,” he said.

Sadly for Dow he hurt his shoulder on Monday leaving him in some doubt for the decider today, while Daniels picked up best on ground honours in both matches.

Macri said the side, coached by Wes Lewis, had worked hard to prepare for the carnival which consisted of two games of 15 minute quarters.

“He’s a super coach and he’s got great support staff. We’re trying to get the best development into these kids that we can,” he told The Guardian on Monday.
