Rally proves a success

THE small communities of Robinvale and Euston are unwinding following a massive week that brought millions of dollars to the towns.

Drawing to a close yesterday, 1700 people in 900 motorhomes travelled to the region to enjoy the week-long 2014 Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA) Robinvale 28th Anniversary Rally.

On Wednesday morning, a 2.5m cake was cut in celebration of the milestone.

It is estimated between $1.5 million and $2 million was spent in the Robinvale and Euston communities throughout the week.

Rally manager Ray Jones said the rally had provided significant economic benefits to the small communities.

“We have tried to purchase everything locally. A lot of money has been spent — there’s no coffee left,” Mr Jones said.

“I’m a great believer in [the benefits of holding] events.”

Plenty of activities and seminars were on offer during the week, including crochet lessons, a photography competition, trade exhibition as well as other opportunities to get creative and active.

A happy hour from 4pm to 6pm each day ensured there was plenty of time for socialising.

On Friday night, CMCA members put their imagination and creative flair into practice for the Half Normal-Half Formal Ball.

This theme saw the large crowd of 1500 attendees dress up in half formal and half casual wear for the night.

Entertainment from band The Twilight Zone, which featured former Masters Apprentices frontman Peter Tilbrook, kept the audience engaged.
