Tooleybuc the place to be

RELATED STORY: Travelling over the countryside

TOOLEYBUC was the place to be at the weekend, with an influx of visitors to the Murray River town.

With a couple of campervan rallys in the region, along with the Festival of Country Music, thousands of tourists from all over the country flocked to the town.

Tooleybuc Sports Club CEO Darrell Fishpool said all the events worked well together, providing the tourists with more things to do and see, hence them staying longer.

All caravan parks in Tooleybuc were fully booked, leaving some to set up their caravans in the sports club’s carpark.

“We’ve had motor homes from all over Australia come here,” Mr Fishpool said.

“The Festival of Country Music has really attracted them to Tooleybuc.

“It has been very popular, even during the day, but will be most busy in the evening.”

Tourist Brenda Martin was enjoying her travels in the region, and had attended the solo rally in Balranald.

“I’ve continued onto Tooleybuc for the festival,” she said.

“I enjoy going to all the smaller towns that need the money and helping them out.”

She said she was “thoroughly” enjoying her time, especially at Tooleybuc’s music festival.

“I am really blown away by this. It is wonderful entertainment and this building is just magnificent,” she said about the Tooleybuc Sports Club.

For Ms Martin, Tooleybuc was her last stop as she prepared to return to her home at Hervey Bay, Queensland.

But for Adelaide local Dave Elliot, Tooleybuc wasn’t be the end of his trip.

He was planning to travel to Robinvale for this week’s Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia rally.
