One day program to start

AFTER three Twenty20s, Swan Hill District Cricket Association players turn their attentions to the summer’s first 40-overs game.

The season opened with three Twenty20 matches in two weeks, with one dayers scheduled for the next fortnight before the two-day program starts.

Nyah District v Woorinen

TWO powerhouse clubs of recent seasons will lock horns when Nyah District hosts Woorinen tomorrow.

The hosts go into the game without having lost yet this summer, while the visitors only blemish was in the opening round.

Despite the winning record, Nyah captain Shane Fleming said his side still had things to work on.

“Look, it’s definitely a good start — you’d take three wins to start the year any day of the week,” he said.

“We’ve still got some areas to improve on, though, and we’ve got three or four out of our best 11 [not currently playing].”

Consistency with the bat and a more rounded team effort were on top of Fleming’s wish list.

“It’s a lot easier when you have six or seven guys stand up rather than relying on two or three like we have tended to do in the past,” he said.

Among those to return to the Nyah line-up were a superstar and a young player on the rise, Fleming said.

“Richie Boulton, well he doesn’t need any explanation. He’s an outright superstar of the competition,” he said.

“There’s Ben Sheridan who’s another young kid who’s got a very bright future.”

Sheridan was recruited to Nyah from RSL, although it was more of a case of coming home, Fleming said.

“He was originally a local Nyah boy and played his junior cricket out here.”

Finally, Fleming was still hopeful that Jason Morrison would turn out on a few occasions this summer, despite no longer living in the district.

“He’s not going to commit for every game, but a handful of games from Jason Morrison is better than none,” he said.
