IMPLEMENTATION of protective financial laws and abolishment of the Murray
Darling Basin Plan are key objectives for the newest federal election contender
for Mallee.

Lake Boga resident Chris Lahy, is the most recent candidate to
announce his plans to run for the seat of Mallee.

A representative for the
Citizen’s Electoral Council, Mr Lahy is the primary carer for his young family
and a part-time employee on a dairy farm near Lake Boga, while also working as a
course trainer and assessor.

His key policy centres around the financial
future of not only the Mallee, but also the nation, in the form of the
implementation of Glass-Stegall legislation.

This legislation separated
commercial and investment banking and was designed to protect customers from the
speculation of banks.

“Let the speculative market take to themselves and
leave the development of the country to regulated government control, that is
what we need to be looking at.”

He added that Australia was not immune to the
financial pressures facing countries overseas and that it was better to act now
than face consequences in the future.

For farmers, the abolishment of the
Murray Darling Basin Plan was one way to alleviate these financial pressures.
