MALLEE Eagles claimed its first win of the season in under 15s football against Balranald on Saturday.
The win kick-started the side’s season after a first-up loss to Woorinen, while Balranald’s fortunes have mirrored the Eagles, after the Roos downed Tooleybuc Manangatang at Greenham Park in the first round.
The win was especially meritorious for the Eagles after a slow start saw the Roos jump out of the blocks to hold an even four goal lead at the first change.
But after a score of seven goals to one in the second quarter Mallee Eagles were not troubled again.
A six goal to nothing second half put the icing on the cake for the home side, with Lachlan Maggs, Josh Bibby and James Meehan the standout players.
Maggs with six for the Mallee Eagles, and Connor Soraggi with three for Balranald, were the game’s leading goal scorers.
