Freight train derails

A FREIGHT train derailment
must be investigated and tracks repaired before trains resume between Bendigo
and Swan Hill, A V/Line spokesperson has said.

About 300 metres of track will
require replacement in the crash which dislodged 14 wagons from the tracks at a
level crossing south of Pyramid Hill early Tuesday morning.

A V/line spokesman said
repairs would begin as soon as investigators had completed their work and the
wagons were cleared from the site.

“Clearing of the wagons is
expected to take up to two days, and will begin as soon as the site is handed
back to V/Line. The site is likely to be released tomorrow morning,” the spokesman said.

A timeline to repair the
track will be known after a complete assessment of the damage and materials
required.”

Police have reported a broken section of track appeared to be a
factor in the derailment.
