Kerang looter jailed for Robinvale thefts

BARELY a month after being sentenced for looting properties during the Kerang floods, then 19-year-old Nathan Britt was stealing from homes and vehicles in Robinvale, Swan Hill Magistrate’s Court has heard.

Facing court last Wednesday, Mr Britt pleaded guilty to a series of thefts conducted in Robinvale during July last year, as well as breaching the community corrections order he was placed under as a result of his earlier looting.

Last year, Mr Britt pleaded guilty to stealing around $5000 of jewellery, cash and alcohol from evacuated properties in Kerang between January 18 and 25.

Although he was sentenced to 235 days’ imprisonment, the magistrate ruled that Mr Britt would serve no jail time due to time already served.

Mr Britt was then sentenced to repay more than $16,000 in compensation to his victims, ordered to undertake a 15-month community corrections order and 175 hours of community work.

In court on Wednesday, Mr Britt’s father and step mother looked on as the 20-year-old faced fresh charges.
