Learning curve

WHILE the district’s young cricketers might have been outclassed at times, Junior Country Week proved a positive learning experience as it wrapped up at Swan Hill yesterday afternoon.

The under 16s week finished with two Twenty20 matches yesterday, with the first against Red Cliffs in the morning proving disappointing.

While the Swan Hill boys bowled well to restrict their opponents to 100 at Alan Garden Memorial Reserve, the Red Cliffs attack was up to the task managing to dismiss the SHDCA side for just 74.

Alan Hatcher said some late boundaries had helped the Red Cliffs cause after an innings of disciplined bowling from Swan Hill.

“The opposition then bowled pretty well… We made a slow start and couldn’t make up the gap in the end,” he said.

Over at the showgrounds that afternoon Swan Hill suffered another defeat, although an improved performance pleased Hatcher.

It was another Twenty20 contest, with Northern Districts making 8/115 batting first.
