Fire destroys Robinvale home

A FIRE that destroyed a family home in Robinvale this morning is believed to have started accidentally.

Two CFA crews were called to the Parke Street home about 9am and Robinvale CFA captain Colin Egan said it was fully engulfed when they arrived.

“The house was fully involved with smoke, a lot of flame visible,” he said.

The fire-fighting volunteers battled the blaze that appeared to begin in a lounge room.

But after the fire quickly took hold of the two-bedroom home, it ended up as a likely write-off, Mr Egan said.

“There was 100 per cent smoke and heat damage to the rest of the house,” he said.

Two adults and a child were outside the home when authorities arrived.

Mr Egan said investigators were examining the possibility the fire was started by a child playing with matches or a lighter around a queen-sized bed in the lounge room.

In the old brick veneer home the fire could have taken as little as 15 minutes to reach the roof after igniting, he said.

“It would have taken off quite quickly due to the bedding and contents of the room.”
