Hungrier than ever: John Katis

HAVING spent almost 16 years on the Swan Hill Rural City Council has not dulled John Katis’ insatiable hunger to improve Robinvale and the wider Swan Hill municipality.

In fact, Mr Katis said that in many ways he was better placed than ever to make a difference, having retired a year and half ago and spent the past year working tirelessly as mayor.

“My commitment to Council has not slowed,” he said.

“Somebody told me the other day that I have the most number of meetings at Council and I’m very proud of that.”

Running for the Robinvale Ward in next week’s election, Mr Katis said there were three issues in his home town that he would seek to remedy.

“Firstly we need to support the levee bank — that is a must,” he said.

“The current bank has not been touched since the 1956 floods and if we lose that then the town disappears.

“Childcare centres and minding facilities are also desperately needed, as is supporting the TAFE, as we need people to take over the specialist jobs in the primary industries.”
