ABOUT 35 sheep were killed or had to be euthanised in a truck-rollover at the Karinie Street roundabout on Thursday morning.
The semi-trailer carrying about 300 sheep was heading south on Nyah Road and was attempting to turn right towards the saleyards in Karinie Street at 8am.
Police said they spoke to witnesses of the accident who said speed was not a factor in the crash.
“It was going very slowly and the movement of sheep appears to have tipped it over,” Sergeant Les McPhee said.
The rollover injured and killed a number of sheep after they became trapped in crates.
Those that survived the impact flooded the streets and were shepherded towards the prime sheep sale by drovers and passers-by.
The Murray Valley Highway was closed and detours installed until the truck was righted by crane about 9.50am.
The driver of the truck was shocked but uninjured.
