Swans are in the four

AFTER our win on Saturday, our senior footy team is in the four and so is our A Grade netballers.

We play the two teams that we are fighting for a top four spot in the next two weeks in the footy so it will be a very interesting finish to the season.

We are at home this week to Murrabit for the second last home-and-away game for the season.

They have got us two out of two this year in the footy and netball. We need to get them this week to cement our spot in the four.

Our A Grade netballers are up against the top-of-the-table this week.

They also need a win to keep their chances alive.

Our B Grade girls have cemented their spot in the four so this is great.

Duck over and grab a feed and cheer our teams on. Could be the last chance for the year.

I was fortunate enough to win the wood raffle last week. Thank you to Brendon for dropping it off. I would have helped you if you gave me a call.

Hooker won the slab raffle. One of the prizes keeps you warm. The other gets you the cold shoulder. You work out which one.

More water

US on the Murrumbidgee system are now on 15 per cent of what we own.

Our mates on the New South Wales Murray got a 100 per cent increase in their water allocation taking them from 1 per cent to 2 per cent of what they own.

Our mates on the Victorian Murray went up 1 per cent to give them 40 per cent of their high security water that they own.

I always have to mention our poor “Crow Eating” mates. They never get an increase and are still stuck on their 100 per cent that they get every year. Poor buggers. We should start a fundraiser for them.

Moulamein flood study

THERE will be a drop-in meeting at Moulamein Fire Brigade on August 21 between 12noon and 1pm run by Murray River Council.

Our council is supplying a relaxed setting with a barbecue so you can drop in, grab a snag and share your thoughts on the floods in Moulamein.

Our business centre will also be available for more formal sit-down meetings if you would rather it that way.

Us old mob may never see another flood in our lifetime, but Mother Nature does not have a memory.

So, anything can happen, especially with global warming – sorry, climate change.

I forgot that global warming didn’t happen and our rivers didn’t dry up.

Gallery annual photo competition

THIS event will be happening on October 3.

The total prize money is $700.

There are three categories this year, two open and one children’s.

The first category in the open is “alphabet shapes in the landscape”. This should get a few shutters clicking.

The black and white category is “wind”. That could be a bit of a challenge. How do you photograph a fart? But I am sure our keen photographers will give it a go.

The 14-and-under section has the same challenge as the open category.

The open section is a $5 entry fee. The children get in for $2 and there are two art sets up for grabs.

Get your cameras out and start clicking. Entries close 3pm on October 3. Winners to be announced at 5pm.

Open day

OUR Edward River Gardens will be holding an open day tomorrow between 9.30am and 12noon.

Morning tea will be provided.

If you would like to see how the best care in the district is provided, call in for a cuppa and check it out.

If I ever get old, that is where I will be heading.

There could be a few different rules about happy hour when I get there, but I am sure we will be able to come to an agreement.

Our Edward River Gardens is also hiring at the moment. Certificate III or higher in individual support or be willing to study is a must.

River levels

THE Edward River will have a bit of a rise come down in the next week.

I do not know why as the Darling River is still supplying our “Crow Eating” mates. But, it could get the fish fired up.

The Edward is still on around 700 megalites a day and just over 1m.

We took the kids out fishing for grandma’s birthday on Sunday.

Only using worms because they get the most bites and keeps kids happy. Five carp in a couple of hours. Four in the first hour. Tried a bit of cheese. Not even a nibble and no shrimps in the net.

Th Edward has gone to 1500ML a day up at the offtake so a bit of that should get to us.

The flush down the Billabong Creek that is eventually going to give us three days of off-quota is still a week or so away.

It looks like we should get another three days of off-quota about three weeks after that.

I do not know how much of this flush will make it down to us, but I am sure it could also liven the fish up. Bring it on.
