Kerang secures first season win

KERANG claimed their first victory of the season in a shock 13-goal win over Cohuna on Saturday, with the loss to their arch rivals having the potential of derailing the fifth placed Kangas finals hopes.

The Blues led at every change and opened up an 18 goal lead at three-quarter time to highlight their dominance, before Cohuna clawed back some respectability in the final term in the 53-40 loss.

The win was seen as a reward for effort by Kerang coach Chloe Adams, with Mikala McNeil making her A grade debut due to Danielle Coates being a late withdrawal from the Blues midcourt.

“We were very happy to get the win, it’s been a long time coming so it was awesome to finally get one on the board,” Adams said.

“We’ve been working hard on our processes and execution in attack, so it was great to finally see that pay off. Our centre pass conversion and gain to goal rate was much better and definitely contributed to the win.

“We still had lulls throughout each quarter and definitely weren’t as clinical as we needed to be in the last, so that is something we will continue to work on and tidy up moving forward.

Keiarah Brooks, Carla Walker and Bree Cordina were among the Blues better players, while Kangas goal shooter Delainey Holmes led the scoring for Cohuna with 19 goals.
