WORDS FROM THE MAYOR

Country Week Tennis success

IT was fabulous to welcome more than 1200 participants to Swan Hill for Country Week tennis last week – the place was absolutely buzzing.

While the formal economic benefits are still being calculated, the event sees accommodation facilities totally booked, hospitality venues in full flight and dollars flowing in Swan Hill.

It is anticipated to inject up to $1.5 million into the local economy.

It was wonderful to showcase our municipality and here’s hoping that it will encourage these visitors back to our region.

Little lights with a big impact

WE recently unveiled a new artwork installation in Robinvale.

The project is located at Robinvale Community Arts Centre as the result of a collaboration with Robinvale College.

It is based on ideas from students during Harmony Day celebrations, along with inspiration from the Robinvale episode of ABC Back Roads and a music clip made by Robinvale students.

The lit up steel sculpture can be rotated manually creating an interactive and enjoyable experience for community members and visitors alike.

I encourage you to check it out – I assure you that you will be impressed.

Seniors week celebrations

AS part of Victorian Seniors Festival reimagined, a week of activities has been arranged for local senior residents to enjoy.

The week will commence on Monday, March 28 and conclude on Friday, April 1.

Events include a silo bus tour, country concert with Tanya Kernigan, dinner and sunset at Sea Lake and some laughter club fun.

It is a great opportunity for senior residents to get involved and most importantly have some fun.

Bookings open on Monday, February 28.

Please call Carolyn Harrop on 5036 4700 to secure your place.

Opportunity to ‘Detox Your Home

AN opportunity for local residents to dispose of their unwanted toxic chemicals is available on Saturday, March 5 at Swan Hill Landfill Transfer Station from 9am to 12 noon.

I encourage residents to take advantage of the free Detox Your Home service to safely dispose of unwanted items.
