BIG WEEKEND FOR MAGPIES

LAKE Boga announced their senior coaches for season 2022, with Shawn Filo set to again take the reins at the Magpies, along with former Essendon and Port Adelaide forward Angus Monfries.

Filo will continue as senior coach, having taken on the role alongside Mitch Hough this season.

While Hough has stepped down, Monfries will instead take his place, with Lincoln Frost to take on the role of an assistant coach.

Despite an injury interrupted season, Matt Filo took home Best & Fairest for the Lake Boga Seniors, with John Harvey finishing as runner up at the weekend.

In the other grades, Darby Hayes won the Reserves’ Best & Fairest, while Lachlan Burns took out the Colt’s Football Award, with Xavier Sherlock closely behind.

In the netball, Jemma Meehan was declared the Magpies’ A Grade Best & Fairest for the 2021 season, with Anna Archie finishing as Runner Up, while Taigan O’Shannassy won the Pies A Reserve Best & Fairest from Holly Higginbottom.

SAINTS BUILDING FOR 2022

TOOLEYBUC-MANANGATANG have set their sights on climbing back up the ladder in 2022, with three key new signings the first step.

Matt Spencely comes to the Saints having played with both South Mildura and Waikerie last season, with the former Adelaide Crows development player sure to be a great addition to new coach Dean Helmers midfield, having also been a three-time premiership player and five-time Best & Fairest winner.

Joining Spencely will be former Waikerie teammate and running half back Billy Cameron, who also boasts an impressive resume, including three seasons with the Port Adelaide Reserves in the SANFL and dual Premierships with Waikerie in 2017 and 2018 – featuring a Best On Ground performance in the 2018 decider.

Also coming to Tooleybuc-Manangatang next season is experienced ruckman/forward Ryan Connellan.

Having played over 300 senior games, won two senior club Best & Fairest awards, and been a premiership player, Connellan – along with Spencely and Cameron – are sure to give the Saints a much-needed injection of class to their playing list.

SAINTS BUILDING FOR 2022 – TAKE TWO

THE Saints aren’t the only club in the red, white and black that have been announcing significant recruits for next season, with Quambatook also securing the services of one of Country Victoria’s most prolific goal kickers in recent seasons.

Ash Murray will don the Saints jumper in 2022, with the full-forward having spent last season playing for Howlong in the Hume Football Netball League.

It’s his 160-goal season with eventual premiers Bullioh in 2019 that Murray will be best known for however, with Quamby no doubt hoping the dominant key forward can have a similar impact for them.

In further good news, the Saints also announced that Chris Kendall and Luke Jongebloed have recommitted with the club for next season.
