Golf Report 24th Sept

Murray Downs Ladies Sixty-seven Victorian residents enjoyed their new found freedom with a game of golf at MDG & CC on Wednesday.

They were joined by 22 NSW residents who have had the course to themselves over the last few weeks.

Some ladies were like proverbial racehorses, came back well after a spell, but others were just happy to be back.

The par event was the first round of the Holt’s Spring Brooch which is held over three weeks , the next two being stroke and stableford.

The top ten players each week score points to determine the eventual winner.

A grader Paula Pickert was the star of the day with a score of 1 up from her 16 handicap.

Runner-up was Pam Austerberry (24) 1 down. In B grade, Colleen Roberts (28) square won from Janelle Hogan (26) 2 down and the C grade winners were Laurel Dewhurst (35) square and Jan McLean (38) 1 down.

The ball rundown was led by Jan Butcher on 1 down and Maree Thurwood, Virginia Allen, Judi Benbow and Lynne Bishop were on target on the par 3’s.

Murray Downs members were saddened by the recent passing of Eilene Farrar.  Eilene loved her golf and rarely missed a competition. Condolences are extended to her family. Nyah West Golf Club Visitors and members alike continue to enjoy their social golf which is all we are allowed to play at the moment, although the course is rapidly drying out.

The club’s wind-up day for season 2021 will be held on Sunday and members are encouraged to come along and join in on the fun social event.

Visitors are welcome.

A BBQ tea will follow.

Well done to Kevin Oliver scoring an eagle on the par 4 sixth hole last week.

It is a long, long time since the Country Tracks 4WD Swan Hill sponsored eagle’s nest has been emptied, and Kevin admits the number of golf balls he collected will see out his golfing life.

The Swan Hill & Kerang Toyota sponsored Disc Golf was launched last Monday and whilst the weather gods did not treat us kindly, the intrepid youngsters and some grandmas thoroughly enjoyed the game and had lots of fun.

The Disc Golf will be available again next week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10.00am to 3.00pm and it is FREE to play.

There is a $5.00 refundable hire fee on the disc.

The club is located at 202 Yarraby Road, Nyah West (turn off opposite the Nyah police station) and is open every day for members and visitors.

Kindly observe any COVID restrictions in place.
