MURRAY DOWNS

A HUGE congratulations to our state men’s fours champions, Josh Thornton, Buck Lehmann, John Caldwell and Garry “Shorty” McCaig, who won the grand final against Geelong. Murray Downs members are very proud of you all, a wonderful achievement, well done.

Social bowls last Thursday was won by Doug Fisher, Noel Delmenico and Geoff Seton-Stewart.

The Police Games are under way, beginning with a charity day on Wednesday and going through to Thursday next week. If members could help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated, please contact Harry Whitford or Bob Napier.

Our AGM is being held on Monday, with a change of venue. It is now at the Swan Hill Club, Glencoe Room at 7.30pm.

Our presentation night is on Friday next week at the Swan Hill Club, 7pm. Please put your name on the notice board by Wednesday for catering purposes.


SWAN HILL

SWAN Hill Bowls Club’s annual May/Autumn Carnival will commence tomorrow week, Saturday, May 6.

This will be our 57th year and entries have been steadily coming in since last year’s carnival, but there are still some vacancies if you wish to enter. The first day is men’s and ladies fours, with the second being mixed fours, with both days starting at noon.

Contact Bill King on 0428 324 083 with your entries or call the bowls club and pick up the program of varied events for the next 10 days. Each event is completed on the day of play with prizemoney awarded.

Monday, May 8 – 9am start, ladies’ pairs and men’s pairs at 1pm.

Tuesday, May 9 – noon start, men’s and ladies fours.

Wednesday, May 10 – noon start, mixed triples.

Thursday, May 11 – 9am start, ladies’ triples and 1pm men’s triples.

Friday, May 12 – 9am start, mixed pairs and second fill at 1pm of mixed pairs.

Saturday, May 13 – men’s and ladies’ fours

Sunday, May 14 – noon, mixed fours

Monday, May 15 – noon, any combination triples

Members are asked to assist in any way they can during the carnival. Men are required to clean up after each day’s play and there are rosters on the ladies notice board for names to help with catering. Any queries regarding assisting in any way, please see Bill King, Mick Balchin, Vic Plumridge or Lynda King.

Friday Frolic will be on again today at the usual time of 3pm, with names to be in by 2.30pm. All are most welcome to join in and enjoy this fun game. Happy hour and Mick’s raffles with all its frivolity, will take place in the club house after the game.

At 5.15pm there will be a short discussion on a questionnaire/survey from the Murray Valley Playing Area regarding the 2023-24 season, with each club to return their ideas. Please be there to have your say.

Brian Mansbridge, Gary McGrath and Brian Richardson collected fourth prize at the Lake Boga Classic last weekend, while several players represented our club at Racecourse’s Anzac Day tournament and a team played in Murray Downs’ police charity day on Wednesday.

JACKPOT bowls is on again tomorrow, with names to be in by 12.30pm for a 1pm start. Single entries to the bowls club on 5037 1301 and please leave a message, or phone Ken on 0408 591 256.

We have our presentation night tomorrow night after bowls, with a casserole and pizza shared dinner, members please bring a casserole or pizza to share. We hope to start dinner from 6pm with everyone welcome.

Our annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 17 at 7pm. Nomination forms are on the notice board, please consider if you can help out in any positions of administration of our great club.
