OUYEN Lake has been lauded as the best wakeboarding venue in Australia after successfully hosting the Mildura Classic at the weekend.
Wakeboard Victoria president Wade Jeffreys was full of praise for local organisers and the Ouyen facility, which filled in for the flood-affected Mildura riverfront.
“From the lake committee to the locals, they were all fantastic,” he said.
“We couldn’t have asked for more. Ouyen Lake is a world-class facility. It’s probably the best water sports venue for our type of sport in Australia.”
He said locals Liam Dinnage and Cambell Davison “rode very strongly” over the weekend, but they missed out on a podium finish.
Victorian Thorry Heaney won the Open Final, while fellow Victorian Parka Edwards claimed the Advanced Final.
The State of Origin crown was narrowly won by Victoria against South Australia.
Jeffreys said Wakeboard Victoria would be pushing to hold more events at Ouyen Lake in the future.
“We definitely will,” he said. “For a venue of that high calibre, it brings out the best in the riders.
“The biggest concern for us at event sites is rollback. But there’s none of that at the Ouyen facility.
“It just means the riders have got more confidence of throwing bigger tricks.”
