Bureaucracy getting in the way of beers?

NEW South Wales clubs and pubs are welcoming back patrons if they’re double vaccinated, however the issue flagged by these organisations is how readily people can access their vaccination certificates.

General manager of the Tooleybuc Sporting Club, Paul Sills, said the public orders only coming in last week meant that some people weren’t prepared to get their certificates, or simply didn’t know how.

“Unless people have the certificate or an exemption on their phone or in paper, I’m afraid that’s it, they can’t come in,” Mr Sills said.

“It’s only 50 days until December 1 when we will be fully open to the public, but hopefully people can get their certificates in order.”

Mr Sills said he was concerned about the bureaucratic rollout of the certificate system, having heard that people were going through the “cumbersome” process of trying to work out how to get the certificate through Centrelink and Medicare offices.

“Hopefully the Service NSW app can assist with the certificate, however that’s not going to help our patrons who are from Victoria.”

At Murray Downs Golf and Country Club, chief executive Greg Roberts said the week had been a little bit quiet, but the club had still seen customers come in to a safe environment with staff on-hand to help.

“If people don’t have the digital certificate on their phone, it’s perfectly acceptable to have a paper certificate to present to our staff, or even a photo of the certificate on their phone,” he said.

“We’re still open for business, and our staff can assist with helping people provide proof of vaccination.”
