Upgrades for Swan Hill and Robinvale leisure centres

THE Swan Hill and Robinvale leisure centres are to get a funding boost of almost $3 million to revamp their operations.

Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp yesterday announced a $2.95 million state government investment, through the Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, at Robinvale Leisure Centre.

Upgrades in Swan Hill will involve the expansion of the dry fitness room and a revamp of the gymnasium and group fitness areas, while in Robinvale, the redevelopment includes the addition of a stadium court suitable for futsal, basketball, netball and volleyball, and an extension of the popular gymnasium space.

SHRCC Mayor Bill Moar said the funding – through the council’s Active Together project – would transform community indoor leisure centres in Swan Hill and Robinvale into fully inclusive, accessible, sustainable, multipurpose sport and recreation precincts.

“Swan Hill Leisure Centre will gain a significant gym expansion and the Robinvale Leisure Centre will benefit from extended gym space, along with an additional highball court,” Cr Moar said.

He said the project was expected to attract new members as well as re-engage participants.

“This project is expected to support existing user groups and participants as well as enhance our region’s economy and liveability factors,” Cr Moar said.

The project is expected to create 17 new full-time jobs during the planning, design and construction phases, and additional jobs when the facilities become operational.

It is expected to get under way this month and be completed by March 2023.

The additions provide new spaces for local indoor sports and health and fitness to expand local programs, including for the local Aboriginal community, through partnerships with the Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative and the Robinvale Clontarf Academy.
