Budget funding for latest facilities

THERE’S a buzz of excitement at Swan Hill North Primary School, following news it has been allocated funding in the State Government Budget to upgrade its facilities.

In what marks the first major upgrade since the school was opened in 1959, the funding was welcomed by principal Brea Terris and the wider school community.

“Our new build will allow us to ensure we have facilities that match the educational philosophies that we have at SHNPS,” Ms Terris said.

She noted the project would now move into the design process for the modernisation of the school.

The masterplan reveals state-of-the-art facilities, including a STEM space for science, technology and art subjects, modern classrooms – each equipped with a small wellbeing office, a new administration building and a shared central space.

Ms Terris said the project would allow for future growth within the shire.

“Projections are showing we will have increased enrolments over the next couple of years,” she said, adding at this time of year, school tours were popular.

“We get to take many families through the school on tours,” she said.

“This year we will be able to share the proposed designs to families as their children will benefit from these state-of-the-art facilities.”

Ms Terris said every day was Open Day at SHNPS. She encouraged potential families to arrange a tour of the school, during class time when students were engaged in their learning.

“This is important for families to get a feel for the school and ensure that it meets the needs of your child,” she said.

“We are very proud of the work that our students and staff complete each and every day.”

SHNPS has strong focus on learning and wellbeing, with staff dedicated to ensuring individual needs are met.

Recent School Review Data revealed 92 per cent of students felt a strong sense of inclusion.

“This gets back to our belief as a school that all of our students can learn and belong to a community,” Ms Terris said.
