ALMOST 40 boxes containing 1.5 tonnes of items have been sent to Kangaroo Island from the Balranald and Mildura communities.
Former Balranald Central School student Cheryle Chalmers, who now lives on the island, made the call out to her friends in the Sunraysia region and Balranald.
Her classmate, Jodie Gervasi, responded to the call out, with another woman, from Mildura, and her husband offering to drive trailers with the contents.
“Monday night (last week), I packed up 18 boxes, including over $500 on items people purchased from local businesses,” Ms Gervasi said.
“My son delivered them to Mildura on Tuesday and Lozz (with the trailers) took them to Kangaroo Island on Thursday.”
Ms Gervasi said the second collection from Balranald filled about 20 boxes worth.
“My husband and I boxed up and delivered to the truck on Sunday,” she said.
“It was taken by Cheryle’s parents to Kangaroo Island on Monday.”
The truck to deliver the items was donated by Benetook Automotive’s Bus, Truck and Ute Hire, and was organised by Kylie Teasdale.
