WORK commenced this week on the installation of a new pontoon on the Murray River at Mensforth Park at Tooleybuc.
The pontoon parts, which have been built off-site by contractor Bellingham Marine Australia, were mobilised on Monday morning on two semi-trailers, one B-double and one extendable load.
The barge arrived early afternoon with water assembly commencing at a similar time, paving the way for the structure’s installation.
All works were carried out at the Tooleybuc boat ramp.
The new structure will contain two gangways; an eight-metre fixed gangway and 28-metre hinged gangway which will enable access for the 25-metre long structure.
Once complete, the pontoon area will have the capacity to serve boats and steamboats and will provide direct access to the town as well as access to the public amenities for water traffic.
Murray River Council mayor Chris Bilkey said the new pontoon was a great project for the Tooleybuc community.
“This week has marked an exciting milestone for the project with the new the pontoon area really coming to life,” Cr Bilkey said.
“The new structure will complement the redevelopment of Mensforth Park area that is also currently underway, showcasing Tooleybuc as a great place to stop; whether you’re on the road or water.”
Water, electricity and sewage service installations are scheduled for completion by February 2020.
The pontoon project is happening alongside redevelopment of Mensforth Park, funded by the NSW Government under round one of the stronger country communities fund and the federal government’s regional growth fund through Our Region Our Rivers regional collaboration project.
Both Mensforth Park and pontoon projects are expected to be completed by late December.
