Forty-four fought for: Coalition pledges $44 million for Swan Hill’s hospital

SWAN Hill District Health (SHDH) will receive a $44 million cash injection if the Liberal-Nationals win next month’s state election.

State Nationals Leader and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh and Opposition Leader Matthew Guy made the election pledge in front of the hospital on Monday.

Mr Guy said the money pledged by the state government last weekend for a new hospital in Footscray could have been shared with Swan Hill.

The pledge comes after months of lobbying by the Swan Hill Needs a New Hospital campaign committee, a community rally and petition presented to Parliament.

Mr Guy met with the committee and was given a tour of the hospital, which has been described as the “most pressing case for renewal in the state”.

“Part of Peter and my campaign as leader of the Liberal and National party is to decentralise our state population,” Mr Guy said.

“To decentralise our population, you need good trains and hospitals.

“They are integral to decentralise the population out of Melbourne to attracting growth out of Melbourne across the whole state.”
