VICTORIAN Opposition Leader Matthew Guy will visit Swan Hill today as lobbying for a new hospital ramps up ahead of November’s state election.
Mr Guy will be speaking to the Swan Hill Needs a New Hospital committee before touring the health service, which has been described as the “most pressing case for renewal in the state”.
Swan Hill Needs A New Hospital Committee chairman Les McPhee said the current building is in a deplorable state and no longer fit for purpose.
“The infrastructure can’t support the services needed by this community and will in time jeopardise our ability to attract quality medical practitioners to Swan Hill,” he said.
“Something needs to be done.”
No funding commitment is yet to be made by either side of Parliament.
Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh said Mr Guy was “well aware” of the strong community campaign for a new hospital for Swan Hill.
