Rainfall better than nothing

Rain this week

IT might not be much, we thought, but there were a couple of local cockies who we lost in the last couple of weeks in charge so we did okay.

Thank you to Kelvin and George for taking over the rainfall this week: 44 fabulous millimetres in my gauge.

There was no run-off on any ground that has not been watered; it just went straight down the cracks.

At least it proved it can still rain heaps when it is not supposed to rain much with modern-day forecasters and all of their computer information.

Sometimes they should just look out their window or check the ant activity.

Rice harvest finishing up

I KNOW I said this last week, but Hooker is hoping that harvest finishes this week so he can tuck his crop in and start to ship it out.

He will not care after Thursday night as he will be sharing $100 million with me.

Rice will definitely become a four-letter word for both of us.

Bit of vandalism fires up the cops

WE do not get much of this in our great little town – vandalism, break-ins or police presence.

But, this has definitely sparked up the police presence in our town over the weekend after a bit of activity the weekend before.

Friday night, Saturday night and then again on Sunday: not just in cop cars but candy cars and unmarked cars as well.

Do not know if anyone got done but it would be a good time to obey the laws in our district.

Our local cops are only just doing their job trying to save us from ourselves so please do the right thing or prepare to start your fitness campaign by walking until you get your licence back.

That Deniliquin road is a pain in the bum as the 60km/h signs seem to go on forever for no reason, but speed limits are speed limits no matter where they are.

A couple of locals have found out recently that loss of licence is nationwide.

Had a young mate get done in Victoria for over 130km/h.

Because he had an NSW licence, he just didn’t drive in Victoria for three months.

Then he got a call from NSW after he thought he had done his time to say that weeks after the offence he had lost his licence for three months nationwide.

Double pain.

It takes months to process stuff like this.

Push a button on the bloody computer and it should tell those in charge this stuff.

Do the crime and do the time, but…

Had another feller with a Victorian licence who got done for DUI in town.

Was told that he lost it in NSW for only three months, but eventually got a call from Victoria.

Different rules in Victoria.

Lost his licence for six months nationwide.

Just remember: your licence is now Australia-wide.

Do it in one state, do it in all states.

Good reason to stay within the law, like we all should.

Football/netball home to Murrabit

I SAID this last week, but someone gave me the wrong information.

Our local football/netball season has started with a whimper for the mighty Swans.

Be sure to come over tomorrow as we have another home match.

Cheer our teams on and get a feed out of the best canteen in our league.

River levels

THE Edward River has got that rise I was talking about.

Our Edward in town is now at over 1.8 metres and just over 1700 megalitres per day.

With our district’s pumps having been shut off after the rain, the 1900ML below Stevens Weir should get here, as well as the couple of hundred megs coming down the mighty Billabong.
