Sonic Speedway heats up for Mallee Masters

SONIC Speedway fires up again on Thursday December 30, with over 30 sports sedans competing in the first round of their series with Street Stocks competing in the Annual Mallee Masters.

After a bruising event recently in Mildura, plenty of competitors have yet to nominate for the Street Stock field, however confidence is high the field numbers will increase at the last minute.

Experienced racer Paul Domburg and promising up-and-comer AJ Lawrence are two of the names who have confirmed their nominations for the Street Stock field.

Local driver Zoey Salau is another driver to watch, as is Mitch Viney with these two sure to be competitive and among the front runners of the field for the big money.

Sport Sedan drivers will be hoping to start the series off with a win, and plenty of competitive drivers capable of starting the series in the best possible way.

Jamie Paull, Jay Nicholson and Dale Smith are three drivers who are coming off recent strong form with all of them likely to battle for the race win and will be hard to beat.

Sports Sedans will also be a large family affair with father-and-daughter combination Robert and Kalani Garlick being joined by father-and-son duos of Ian and Jamie Thomsen as well as Darren and Nathan Shortis.

Former local Shane Simpson will lead the charge of best of the rest, with Tommy Mcdonald, Troy Glassbrow, Matthew Brooks, Marcus Griffith, Russell Smith and Nathan Fauns also chances of causing an upset on the night for the race win.

Dillon Taylor and Jack Houlahan have stepped up from the Junior Class and will be trying to steer clear of Andre ‘The Giant’ Meunier who is a former world champion kickboxer.

While nominations are still open, it appears that the Standard Class will be a battle of locals Josh Campbell, Claude Pearson and Keil Tripcony who will be looking to reverse the bad luck they endured last season.

Damien McKenzie and Chris Conlon are two of the experienced drivers who are expected to dominate the Formula 500s, with Malcolm Gammon also getting the chance to put in a good performance in his new car.

Jess and Neil Bedggood will write their latest chapter in their family rivalry, with Jess currently holding a slight advantage in the Bedggood bragging rights.

The Junior Category will be full of young racers who will be keen to show off their potential – Rhys Meakins, Kalani Garlick and Blake Adam the ones to keep an eye out for.

Riley Balins and Hunter Carey are two of the juniors who will be having their first visit to the track. Both drivers are looking to learn the track quickly and get up to speed.

Racing starts at 7pm, with a well-stocked canteen providing both hot and cold food options for the public, get there early to park your car on the fence, or bring a chair to sit on the grassed viewing area.

For a great night of fast, close entertainment ‘Get ya backside trackside’.
