A cricket club on the Murray border that was at threat of calling stumps indefinitely three years ago has been rejuvenated thanks to upgrades to their equipment and training nets.
The Tooleybuc Cricket Club was awarded $13,900 under the Stronger Communities Fund from Murray River Council for the upgrade to facilities at the Tooleybuc Recreation Reserve.
The funds will cover the costs of a new training net area, along with new cricket pads, gloves, helmets, grips, bats and practice balls.
Only three years ago the club was on the verge of disbanding, but with the help of a fundraising committee and some extra community volunteers, the club is now heading in a positive direction, with the addition of a premiership in 2015.
President Mark Kentish said upgrades wouldn’t be possible because of other financial pressures.
“The previous nets were up for about 30 years and would occasionally be replaced, but now we have extended the nets to make it more functional and safer,” Mr Kentish said.
