Lake Boga stonefruit grower Joelene Williams believes women in agriculture are “undervalued”.
“Women are seen more in the supporter role and not in a leading position,” Ms Williams said.
The apricot specialist was one of four finalists last week in the 2017 Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation’s (RIRDC) Victorian Rural Women’s Award, with winners announced at State Parliament last Wednesday.
“The eventual winner said there were about 50 per cent of women in the horticultural industry and only five per cent in management and board executive positions,” Ms Williams said.
“That’s not really representative of the industry.”
