WOMEN’S footy in the Mallee will be boosted by the Bendigo Pioneers girls program this year with a five-week TAC Cup season coinciding with the newly minted AFLW tournament.
Women players in the area will be excited by their prospects of joining the Pioneers program (and potentially the AFLW) after Woorinen player Bella Ayre was drafted to Carlton.
Off the back of the Woorinen women’s side’s historic flag in 2016, six Swan Hill players held talks with head coach Shawn McCormick at the Pioneers in preparation for the season.
While still in a growing phase, McCormick said 2017 would be a tremendous step forward for women’s sport in general.
