A taste of the wine life

Elodie Boucher has always had an interest in the wine industry.

The 22-year-old French native remembers attending big family gatherings as a child with a bottle of wine in the middle of the table.

“Everyone would try the wine; it’s just so much a part of our culture,” Ms Boucher said.

“People don’t drink to get drunk; they drink to enjoy the taste.”

After studying wine marketing at university, specifically focusing on the beautiful Champagne region, she felt like a change of scenery and booked a flight to Australia in September last year, hoping to improve her English.

“I wanted have a change in my life. I was bored of my life back home,” she said.

“I wanted to meet new people and try something different.”

In Melbourne, she worked for four months at a company that imported champagne.

“It was such a great experience and I learned a lot in a short amount of time,” she said.

Ms Boucher travelled to regional Victoria to do the “Farm Work” section of her university course and to gain more hands-on experience working in the wine industry.

She is living in Lake Boga and working at the Free family farm with Nathan and dad Kelvin.
