LOCAL stories, mementos and photographs of another time or place are the focus of ‘Some Other Time’, a new exhibition at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery.
A collection of personal artefacts are on display in the gallery, including tools used to create indigenous artwork, a special Turkish rug, an Egyptian eyeliner pot, Persian burqa masks, a pair of vintage suitcases and a World War I medal that was retrieved in the most extraordinary way.
The objects may not seem like much at first glance, but after reading the stories behind what makes them so special to the owners, visitors will start to understand the importance of memories and connections between people.
Creative Arts Facilitator for Regional Arts Victoria and curator of the exhibit, Kim Bennett said the exhibit should really be called “The People’s Museum”.
“It’s more a museum than an art exhibit; it’s really about people and the connections between people and objects,” she said.
The exhibit runs until October 30th.
