MELBOURNE Vixens star Jo Weston was on hand to train with some of Swan Hill’s brightest netballing talent last week, coming to the region with NetFit.
The talented defender spoke to the Central Murray Football Netball League’s netball academy about the hard work and dedication it took to become an elite athlete, before conducting a training session with them and the coaches.
Again on Thursday night, the Australian Diamonds squad member took to the courts again, training a bunch of youngsters, aiming to help them become confident young ladies.
Speaking to The Guardian, Weston said she was thrilled to be in the area.
“It has been really great, I haven’t been to a rural area before with NetFit, but it is great to get on the road and take a great product like this to Swan Hill where we know there is a huge passion for netball and a huge talent pool as well,” she said.
“What we have seen is really great up here. I think is it great the girls are training as an academy and hopefully the next step is identification for netball pathways.
“I think this develops their skills, but them as young girls too. I think it helps their confidence which is really important.
“I have seen some beautiful scenery and had good food up here, I will be back.”
CMFNL academy coach Naomi Lewis said it was a privilege to have someone of Weston’s calibre in the area helping coach the young players.
