FOR more than 60 years the hardworking family man Neville “Nev” Hutchings has been building and refurbishing homes, businesses and landmarks throughout Victoria.
At 77-years-old and with no plan to retire anytime soon, Nev is the oldest member of the Master Building Association (MBA) in Victoria.
“I can’t see myself retiring anytime soon,” he said.
“I love working, we have also just started a scrap metal business called N.F.P.G recyclable metals.”
Nev lost his father at the age of eight in his hometown of Mortlake, which was a hard time for he and his family.
He and his seven siblings went on to be raised by his mother.
“When I was 12 I sold newspapers on the corner of Collins Street in Melbourne to help earn money for the family,” he said.
His building career began in Melbourne at the tender age of 15, moving to Swan Hill in 1965 with his wife Florence and son Paul who at the time was two years of age.
