SEVERAL wetlands and floodplains across the Swan Hill district are set to receive new watering events to ensure their typical flooding regimes are achieved.
The Victorian Environmental Water Holder (VEWH) has released its plan for watering for the new irrigation season, which began earlier this month.
Nyah and Vinifera forests, Burra Creek South, Gunbower Forest and Hattah Lakes are among the region’s locations set for a new drink.
As in every year, the waterways chosen to receive a watering top-up were selected through a prioritisation process whereby local Catchment Management Authorities (CMA) sent through their preferences.
Mallee CMA waterways manager Louise Chapman said these preferences were informed by long-term Environmental Water Management Plans set up for each waterway.
“They outline the objectives for the site, and the watering regime that’s needed to support those objects,” she said.
