Demon torches Balranald with 10 goals

NOT only does Adam Sambono get to play alongside some of his childhood heroes, the 19-year-old forward pocket kicked 10 majors in his side’s landslide victory over the Balranald Roos at the weekend.

This week’s player of the year nomination is in his first season with the in-form Nyah Nyah West United Demons and managed to dominate the Roos defensive unit from the get-go.

The youngster was told he had kicked seven goals at three quarter time and set himself the target of 10, eventually finding his way there.

Growing up watching players like teammate Darryl White play in the AFL inspires Sambono on the field each week, and the former Darwin Buffalo said it was a great experience to be in Nyah Nyah West United colours.

“I haven’t kicked 10 before in a game, it was very enjoyable,” he said.

“I played the defenders and knew where the ball was and where to be, I got a few goals doing that … but winning a few games in a row and playing well is good.

“I came down with (coach and former North Melbourne Kangaroo) Matt Campbell and it is pretty awesome playing alongside him, it gives you confidence.”

The Daly River, Northern Territory, man also said his time at the Demons was teaching him a lot about himself and the game he loves.
