SWAN Hill Rural City Council (SHRCC) has re-pledged its support to secure black spot funding for the notorious McCallum and Murlong Street intersection.
Despite three previous applications to have traffic lights or a roundabout installed at the intersection, VicRoads contested that only three crashes have occurred since 2011, reducing the likelihood of federal funding.
Concerned locals voiced their opinions again on Saturday after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection left one person in hospital, prompting local Pamela Shell to urge the council to once again apply for funding.
“We have seen so many accidents there over the past 15 years, the council needs to do something,” she said.
“We all want something there. Someone will die there one day … but they won’t listen to us, they haven’t listened for more than 15 years.
“It is still a dangerous intersection, especially in the afternoon when the sun comes down.”
