LOCAL health store owner Toni Taylor is standing by national kombucha supplier Dean O’Callaghan as the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VGGLR) orders the product off the shelves.
Kombucha, a fermented tea served cold, has become extremely popular in cafes, supermarkets and restaurants in recent years due to reported health benefits including detoxification, digestion and immunity.
However, the VCGLR recently wrote to businesses across the state warning them they might need a licence to sell kombucha due to traces of alcohol produced when the drink ferments.
This is where Ms Taylor of Mojo Health and Wellness takes issue.
“I have stocked Good Brew kombucha simply because it is the best around in my opinion,” she said.
“I only sell the products in my store that I believe in. Kombucha is different because it is live, it is basically living medicine.”
