Locals’ Putter success

THE two-day Murray Downs Golf and Country Club Ladies Golden Putter tournament was voted a great success by participants who travelled from various clubs in Victoria and New South Wales to take part in the prestigious event.

The first section, the Silver Putter, saw 51 pairs vie for the major trophies. Kerry Peterson (15) from Gisborne and Pamela Majak (45) were the successful pair with a commendable score of 45 points.

Local pairing of Barb Clark (20) and Delia Weir (35) were next best with 43 points, third place went to Denise Turner, 15, (Neangar Park) and Jean Youl, 45, (Lakeside) and Jill Brown (32) and Rhonda Barrow (18) were fourth, both on 40 points.

The Golden Putter saw 52 pairs take out cards. They played in extremely cold conditions with Lakeside’s Lois Carnie (18) and Murray Downs’ Lea Johnson (32) — nine-up — now the owners of the sought-after trophies.

Denise Turner and Jean Youl — five-up — and Kerry Peterson and Pamela Majaj — four-up — again came to the fore after their successes on the previous day.

Chris Warburton, Janice Johnstone and Helen Emery (both Valley View), Cath Lang, Lynne Lawry, Mary Campbell (Gisborne), Wendy Lake (Barham) and Val Hedwards all hit accurate shots to the Par 3 holes over the two days.
