Tigers too good at home

WOORINEN’S strong season of female footy continued on Sunday, the Tigers’ home crowd celebrating wins to both the women and youth girls over Sandhurst.

The women’s win came off the back of accurate goalkicking of 21 goals with only 10 behinds, and five players kicking three or more goals.

Jenna Bannam claimed a bag of six, while Tenay Fellows wasn’t far behind with five.

Former AFLW player Coutney Wakefield returned to the fold for Woorinen, stamping her authority on the game with four goals in a best-on-ground performance.

Wakefield’s presence forward of the ball drew keen attention from Sandhurst’s back line, freeing up Natasha Kelly and Brydi Lewis, who finished the game with three goals each.

The former Richmond player was ruthless in her attack of the football and provided Woorinen with a combination of run and strength from half-forward.

Tigers coach Katelyn Hazlett was once again a dominant force, while Emma Peacock and Casey Unger continued to impress.

The Tigers led at every break, opening the game with an accurate five goals straight, before exploding with another seven goals before half-time, with only two behinds.

The ruthless Tigers continued the onslaught, adding another nine goals before the game was wrapped up.

Earlier in the day, Woorinen’s youth girls kicked off the double-header action with a come-from-behind win over the Dragons.

Trailing by eight points after the first quarter, Woorinen fought back strongly to turn the game around and win by 25 points.

Grace Ayars kicked a big bag of five goals, while Sunny Barry added another three goals to the tally.

Tigers skipper Emilie Ward was at her best once again, bringing teammates into the game with her skilled ball use.

Charli Conway, Jenna Stewart, Meg Young, Eva Coffey and Sofie Legudi were also named as Woorinen’s best players on the day.
