Keeping for Victoria

BRENT Daniels’ St Mary’s Tyntynder Cricket Club mates can be justifiably confident in his glove work: he’s the best under 15s wicket keeper in Victoria.

Daniels is just over a week away from representing his state at the national cricket carnival in Canberra.

As he prepares to head to the national capital, Swan Hill District Cricket Association presented him with a contribution towards associated costs this week.

SHDCA president Greg Cruickshank said the board was proud to have Daniels representing the region in the event.

“It speaks volumes for the coaching and commitment of our clubs to be fostering junior cricket,” he said.

Cruickshank also acknowledged the commitment of Daniels’ parents, Greg and Janine Daniels.

“It’s a significant cost they’ve committed to, he goes to [state] training every week, plays practice games in Melbourne or Geelong.

“Coming from the other end of the state it takes a big commitment,” he said.

Cruickshank also pointed to the singular distinction of being asked to keep wickets for your state.

“He’s obviously a very handy keeper and he’s got the commitment,” he said.

“They choose six batters and five bowlers but only one keeper, so it’s a great achievement.”

The carnival will be held on February 21 and 22.
