THE local manufacturing industry was in the spotlight when Victorian minister
for manufacturing David Hodgett visited the region earlier this week.
In his
first visit to the region in an official capacity, Mr Hodgett, along with
minister for agriculture Peter Walsh, was in Swan Hill on Wednesday to announce
funding for a local organics business and view the local manufacturing
industry.
Wattle Organic Farms, near Lake Boga, received a $42,000 grant to
assist in the purchase of a new flow-wrapping machine.
The funding was
provided under round three of the Victorian Government’s Investing in
Manufacturing Technology program.
Based in the local area on a property at
Tresco West, the change to organics occurred five years ago to enter a
“prospering organic market and…get out of the decreasing conventional market,”
Wattle Organic Farms director Nathan Free said.
