AFL legend Shane Crawford’s Tour de Crawf has reached its conclusion with the
Swan Hill community etching itself into a fantastic story.
An emotional
Crawford arrived at Perth’s Crown Casino on Thursday night to a hero’s welcome
after completing 3600km on his marathon ride for breast cancer.
Although at
the time of writing the total amount raised was yet to be finalised, it is
expected to be to more than Crawford’s 2010 walk for Breast Cancer Network
Australia (BCNA).
His ‘That’s What I’m Walkin’ About’ marathon 760km run from
Adelaide to Melbourne raised approximately $600,000 for BCNA.
Crawford passed
through Swan Hill on day two of his 22-day journey, stopping for a gala dinner
held at the Town Hall.
The gala dinner alone raised almost $50,000 for the
cause through ticket sales, drinks and an auction held on the night.
The
local community also dug deep for BCNA, with many businesses and individuals in
the Swan Hill district putting forward generous donations.
Approximately
$15,000 was raised in less than 24 hours through donations from the local
business community.
The donation was presented on The Footy Show, with the
size of the donation earning Swan Hill plenty of publicity through a spot on the
sponsors board.
Swan Hill’s donation was among the highest received for the
ride.
