AMATEUR adventurer, 18-year-old Chris Hayward, is keeping one eye on the environment and the other on the record books as he seeks to quench his thirst for adventure.
The Bacchus Marsh resident stopped in Swan Hill on Wednesday afternoon, almost halfway through an epic 2,600 kilometre, carbon-neutral, solo journey down the Murray River.
He is also using the journey to promote environmental awareness and raise funds for Greenfleet .
The not-for-profit organisation deals with brands, companies and households to avoid and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, then offset any remaining emissions by planting native forests.
“I believe we should be planning for future adventurers,” Chris said.
The expedition brought Chris to Swan Hill on Wednesday for an overnight stop, a long way from where he embarked — about 30km downstream from the source of the river — on July 30.
