THE votes are still being counted, but Liberal candidate Chris Crewther has
conceded defeat in his contest for the seat of Mallee as of this morning at
10.30am.
Mr Crewther made his announcement when it was clear the Nationals
candidate Andrew Broad had an undisputed lead, with 56.4 per cent of the vote at
midday yesterday.
This puts Mr Broad at more than 10,000 votes ahead of Mr
Crewther, with 46,469 to 35,980.
Mr Crewther thanked his supporters,
including his wife and his family in Horsham.
“My wife Grace was behind me
through thick and thin,” he said.
Mr Crewther also thanked his campaign team,
including his campaign manager Adrian Kidd.
The Liberal member congratulated
Mr Broad on his ascendency to the role of member for Mallee.
“I offer my best
wishes for Andrew as the Mallee representative,” he said.
