Woorinen wins under 17 premiership

IT WAS a close finish, but with an over to spare, Woorinen defeated St Mary’s
Tyntynder in the Swan Hill District Cricket Association under 17 grand
final.

A good crowd gathered for play under lights at Tooleybuc Reserve,
starting on Friday, March 15, and finishing last Friday night.

St Mary’s made
121 runs in its 40 overs, conceding nine wickets.

But Woorinen had the
superior firepower, making 126 runs in 39 overs, and with five wickets in
hand.

St Mary’s took to the front foot early, winning the toss and deciding
to bat.

Early in the innings opening batsman Jesse Alty was out for eight,
while Jarrod Alty managed a team-high score of 33.

Alty and Jonty
Chaprioniere made a good partnership, pushing the side’s total over
fifty.

After Corey Daniels was dismissed for 21, St Mary’s lower order did
well to bat out the full 40 overs, pushing the total to 121.
