TENNIS pennant completed its season with a hard-fought grand final on Saturday,
with the favourites, Gray, scoring a handy 13 game victory.
Gray topped the
ladder for much of the season, and proved its superiority over a Beveridge team
that made a late rush into calculations.
The match started with Beveridge
well in the mix.
Matt Witney, in spite of an injury scare during the week,
and Julie Wardle, scored an 8-6 win over Gray’s Barry Dow and Gene Brooks, and
followed up with a strong effort by Brett Pekin and Alan Thompson, who accounted
for Chris Nalder and Andrew Sartori 8-3.
Vaughn Catton and Derek MacFarlane
flew Gray’s flag with a tight two game win over Damien Mays and Trevor
Rowlands.
Vicki Nalder and Jacqui Brooks gave Gray another two game margin,
beating Angela Smith and Narelle Maeder.
The Beveridge pair improved on their
effort in the previous encounter, and should have been well pleased with this
performance.
