Cruickshank withdraws from pre-selection race

WHEN nominations for The Nationals pre-selection closes on
Monday evening, the list will be missing one previously announced candidate —
Swan Hill Rural City Councillor Greg Cruickshank.

The Swan Hill resident told
The Guardian on Wednesday he would be withdrawing his application to become The
Nationals’ candidate for the September 14 federal election, citing family
commitments.

“Unquestionably my family are the most important thing in my
life, and possibly taking on the role of Member for Mallee would mean a
considerable change in the life I know now and my family knows now,” he
said.

“I’m really thinking what it means to my family and lifestyle, which
would both change [if elected to parliament].

“You can’t get back what you
lose.”

Asked if he would consider applying again if the position was vacant
at a later date, Cr Crucickshank would rule nothing out.

“Never say never,”
he said.
